What it shows

Every team on the slate, ranked by how much its opponent allows in the stat you pick. NHL has no public matchup grades, so we build them from every box score: for each team we total what opposing forwards (F) and defensemen (D) produced against it, per game, and rank all 32 teams. 32 = allows the most (softest matchup), 1 = allows the least.

Grades

The chip next to each number is that rank. GREAT = top sixth of the league for the bettor (rank 27-32), GOOD 21-26, EVEN 12-20, TOUGH 6-11, BAD 1-5. The row's Matchup grade averages the F and D ranks.

Columns

• Opp allows F / D — per game, what the opponent gives up to forwards / defensemen in this stat.
• Team F / D — what this team's own forwards / defensemen produce per game (rank 32 = most).
• Goalie faced — the opponent's starter from ESPN (Confirmed / Expected), else their most recent starter (Last start), with his season save %.
• Opp PK% — the opponent's penalty kill (rank 32 = worst kill = softest); PP% is this team's power play.

Saves view

One row per starting goalie. Opp SF/G is how many shots on goal his opponent takes per game (rank 32 = most = more save chances); Team SA/G what his own team allows. Exp. shots averages the two. HR line is his Hard Rock saves line when posted — Hard Rock only.

Window & season

Season uses this regular season; until most teams have 5 games it uses last season instead (noted at the top). Last 10 uses each team's ten most recent regular-season games — more current, noisier. Playoff games are never counted.
